In defense of the character, canonically speaking he is the only voiced protagonist in Grand Theft Auto all of whose action make sense regardless of what the player makes him do.

Yeah he was. And thinking back he was good in Better Call Saul it was just Mike in the scene that was terrible and made me dislike the whole thing.

steve should take a page out of ned luke's book and embrace the fact that he will only be appreciated for that one thing. also, trevor single handedly derailed gta v from being an interesting game, narratively -- him, and michael's shitty family

I don't know why these aspects get the shit that they do - having civilians as major characters raises the stakes and sense of danger cuz now you have bad, but largely innocent people in the mix of this insane nonsense, and Trevor is kind of a meta-character that allows you to be as violent and erratic and insane as possible, without conflicting with the narrative. It's different than what we're used to, but I would say it derailed it.

I understand the purpose of michael's family and the meta-commentary of trevor's character, and none of it changes the fact that they're utterly interminable. rockstar was more interested in fellating themselves with the CRAZY WHACKINESS of trevor instead of delivering an actually engaging storyline with legitimate tension. and whilst I like michael, I never once gave a fuck when he started working towards bringing his family back together, because they're all utterly insufferable, unfunny, migraine inducing characters. just cos there's a modicum of substance behind the writing doesn't equate it to being quality

This is why I didn't like Trevor.
I get it, YOU'RE FUCKING WACKY AND WILL APPEAR IN A DRESS ONCE IN A WHILE.
I remember just trying to play the game few times and explore and swapped to Trevor and I'm being chased and have a high wanted level all of a sudden. I just wanted to drive around and if I wanted to cause havoc I would do it myself.

plus you aren't able to switch characters when you have a wanted level, and that's on top of the teleporting police that know your precise location, no matter how effectively you evade them

Couldn't agree more. I completed it when it first came out but I didn't enjoy nearly as much as everyone else seemed to and mostly because all the characters are annoying af and completely unrelatable. I honestly can't think of even one likeable side character. Even the dog was annoying. The 3 switchable characters was so gimmicky too.

GTA 6 is gonna make me angry when they mention the fact she's a woman of color or some other pandering shit.
