Heinlein worked for Democrat political campaigns, ran for office himself as a socialist, then took what Asimov called "a hard shift to the right" and worked for the Republicans, before ending up a Libertarian. I don't understand how his political views could be less narrow short of joining the Nation of Islam for a finale. As for his gender views, he was pretty conservative in the 1930s and 40s - like the rest of the country - and then loosened up in the 60s and 70s - like the rest of the country. He was very vocally anti-racist, and had non-white protagonists when that was Not The Done Thing. Shit, he had one of the earliest transgender characters in 1958's All You Zombies.
