Reminder: During the meteoric rise of podcasting, O&A and Jim devoted their energy to bitching about Sirius on Sirius's airwaves

Which way?! Medium or well done?
Nice seizing the initiative, stupids

They were all clearly complacent and SCARED :image_9253: of taking risk and loved the corporate atmosphere as much as they bitched about the SUITS DOWN THE HALL :bhzv6yb:

Baby boys :image_9248: needed their paycheck every 2 weeks, PTO and health insurance and didn't want to put in the effort to create something on their own until forced to.

I’m sure a big part of it for them too was having a whole crew of retards getting them whatever they wanted to eat/drink every day. Made them feel like “stars”. Yuck

and now it's all over
after the sex for sam scandal, there was literally nowhere else for them to go. they didn't even want to do satellite radio in the first place; that was legitimately their only remaining option. that's why the show was such a steady decline as the years went on, as I think they both slowly realised they weren't going to do any better than where they already were. they were quite literally phoning it in the last few years of o&a's run *candy crush noises*

it's not too dissimilar to how we moan about our jobs we hate. the management sucks and we hate the company, yet we still show up for work anyway. a gig's a gig

You hate them for not doing the unrealistic thing that nobody in their right mind would do?
I'm saying they were increasingly unhappy working for satellite radio at the exact time a new option was launching and their peers were finding success in it.

Considering the fact both Opie and Anthony were FIRED from Sirius, maybe starting their own thing first wasn't so unrealistic

In 2004, there was no way to start their own thing. I would say for older dopes like them, Compound was probably best case scenario as far as getting equipment into the city, and even that took quite a few additional years to complete. And even still, it's half a show at best. Just because they knew how to run some equipment didn't mean they could build a studio from scratch, and figure out how to distribute the audio feed without a radio network's infrastructure and advertising behind them.

It's easy to say what they shoulda done back then, but we sometimes forget what a prison it was technologically. You couldn't even listen to a live audio feed on-the-go until easily into the 2010's.

Again, I'm not saying in 2004. I'm saying more like 2012 -- at which point they milked just about all the money they were ever going to get from radio

Still spreading the O&A virus
after the sex for sam scandal, there was literally nowhere else for them to go.
Their entire career was like that. They were suspended at WAAF at least ten times. Sometimes for a day sometimes longer. They would play a bit or say something then management would send them home early like it was high school and have someone else finish the show without them. Both WOW and AOTM almost got them fired and both bits were shut down at WAAF by management and weren't revived until O&A moved back to NYC. Opie did the whole 'mayor is dead' prank because they had just been suspended recently.

This happened at WNEW as well where they would get a short suspension and often times get someone fired. And management from both WAAF and WNEW were constantly trying to split O&A up and move Antony to another market away from Opie. It is honestly amazing that the show wasn't blacklisted from all radio. But they were so popular that everyone was willing to sign them over and over during the 'shock jock' craze. Every week the lawyers would be dealing with FCC fines or playing Eminem's music early or something else.

After the first Sex for Sam they got a producer fired by their general manager (Psycho Mark, for having anal sex in their boss's office, his last words on air being 'your mom's box'). And their general manager was himself suspended by the heads of Infinity or whatever the head company was called back then. They were also constantly under fire from management for stuff like T&A with O&A or the Voyeur Bus. Their firing was always around the corner.

I disagree that they had nowhere to go after Sex for Sam 3 as the only reason they didn't immediately sign with another radio company after being suspended was their CBS contracts locked them in. They had deals with other radio networks just waiting but didn't pull the trigger because of the whole Stern and CBS permanent gag order. They signed with XM because some of the guys at XM were huge O&A fans and promised an uncensored show. And it would make O&A pioneers as the first major satellite exclusive talk show. They returned to CBS for the simulcast within two years as well.
