It is incomprehensibly stupid, especially considering Cumia never planned any of it.

So he gets fired for sperging out on niggers. Jim and Op may say Ant knew they were under contract but I don’t care. It must have stung knowing they didn’t resign in protest and it’s obvious. Cumias only criticism of Opie through that was “He didnt go into management office and threaten to quit.” I’m inclined to believe Opie when he says at that point they were ready to let the show go, especially if he threatened that. How can you have leverage when your cohost is getting fired and causing a scandal for the company?

Lets say he would have waited until October for them. Did Anthony do anything to prepare a network for the show in that time? Draft any contracts? Even fucking plans for the logistics of two guys driving out to his house everyday to broadcast from the basement? Hell, who’s gonna be running it? It is from Anthonys basement so naturally he would be the head of the show. Nope. Drink drink drink NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER. As Opie said they didn’t even have a conversation about podcasting.

Think about it like this. The only reason the show survived as long as it did was management and Opie. Opie crafted Anthony into what he was and stopped his faggotry from becoming rampant and turning off listeners. Management drove them because they signed them to a contract and dangled the next one over their head, forcing O&A to have a standard and goal to work towards for the foreseeable future.

If they joined Ant at Compound that wouldn’t happen. 10 years later and his show and future is directionless. Having Op and Jim along for the ride wouldn’t have steered it in a different direction. Like Opie said, if they were gonna start a podcast Opie would talk to his guys and set it up right because he was the actual guy getting shit done and a drive for the radio show. Ant and Jim were on a meal ticket and nothing makes that more blatant than their solo shows.

Their contracts were already being negotiated when Anthony was fired. Opie and Jim locked in pay rates that they had negotiated as the O&A show. No way that either of them would give up the massive salaries they were making when O&A was the brand. Norton took a nosedive in salary for Jim and Sam. I would not be surprised if he didn't renew his contract after this last one. But them renewing their Sirius deal for another couple of years was worth more than probably thirty years of working for Compound.

Their contracts were all up in October of 2014. Opie started talking to the bosses in early 2014 about re-signing the entire show for a few more years and they discussed stuff like starting an hour later or doing only four days like Stern (though maybe Stern was already at 2-3 days a week then). Anthony then gets fired in July. By the beginning of September, both Opie and Jimmy are finalizing their new deals with Sirius. By the end of September they both sign with Sirius again and announce it.

They probably never for a second entertained joining Compound with Anthony. Later Anthony would offer Opie half of Compound Media and Opie would laugh in his face. Anthony would repeatedly offer Norton a spot on Compound as well as signing all of Norton's prop act characters which Norton would continually decline as well.

I would've loved to have seen the Opester go with Anthony and do O & A at Compound with Jimmy but Opie was making 5 million dollars a year at that point. What would O & A's listenership been in 2014? Maybe 100,000 - 150,000 people would we all agree on that? If 1/3rd followed them over to Compound Media at 10 bucks a month that's 6 million a year coming in gross for Compound Media then you have the taxes, bills etc to pay on top of that. Maybe Opie gets half of his 5 million dollar salary from Anthony if he's lucky? Odds are though he probably would be on a million or a million and a half to do O & A with Compound or he can get 5 million to do Opie & Jim.

Norton probably in the same boat, Compound could maybe have offered him a quarter of what Sirius was paying him and he'd lose money on his stand up as well. Anthony expecting friends to lose 2/3 of their income is crazy but given the relationship between him and Opie at the time his expectations are even crazier.

Although it is fun to think about what Compound could've been if Opie and Jim made the jump with Anthony, I'm sure the show selection would be much more entertaining than what Anthony has going on currently...

Remember when Clarkson got fired on top gear and all his friends left the show? Of course they got a sweet Amazon deal out of it too
yeah, but clarkson also didn't arrogantly and passive aggressively treat the friend who got him into the industry like shit just because he didn't like his girlfriend 15 years ago. really is a wonder why opie didn't go with ant after everything that transpired

The smart thing for Ant to do after he lost his gig at Sirius would've been to wait it out, stay on Opie's good side and hope that he could've gotten his job back at some point in the future. Even if that meant doing a groveling apology on air or promising to get off Twitter.

That was obviously never going to happen with nana's ego being what it is though. He was always just going to see himself as the victim in that situation. If he didn't want to try and get his job back at Sirius though, at least don't fucking tank your relationship with the other 50% of your brand.

Him doing that Greggshells episode was so fucking stupid and short-sighted. That wasn't even a year after he'd got fired too. Even after doing two of those episodes and selling merch mocking him though, Opie was still prepared to let bygones be bygones and did that call with him on the air. If Ant would've just stopped bashing him at that point, they could've easily made that call a weekly thing, which would've been beneficial to everyone and might even have possibly led to Ant getting hired again. But of course, nana didn't have the self-control for that.

I'm not surprised at all that Opie legitimately hates Ant these days. Alcohol brain-damaged nana did everything to earn it.

Cumia never said this. He said that they should have threatened it, which Opie admitted he didn’t do.
it wasn't opie's responsibility to salvage cumia's career after his blunder. and even putting that aside, o&a was really winding down by 2013/2014, and you didn't need to be very perceptive to see the show's expiration date was nearing. had anthony not been fired the show probably would've only lasted another three years tops. who the fuck would throw away millions just to stick up for an alcoholic paedophile who was nothing but petty towards you after you gave them a multi-million dollar career?

Anthony offered Opie half of compound media... THREE TIMES... Opie turned him down 3 times and even considered buying Bob Kelly's Riotcast instead of taking half of Compound for free....

This is exactly what I thought would happen as the news broke that Anthony got fired... That he would do a public fake apology live from his Compound set, on the O&A show on youtube video for free. And then the company would let him guest from his house like a zoom call. Until he was eventually let back in the building as a guest and maybe rehired if he was a good boy.

But the second he started ranting on air about his perspective in the fight I knew he was done. Anthony has always been stubborn but he folds like a piece of paper when meeting face to face. The root of his drunken insolence is that he has been rejected and shunned, and must be separated from the pack. Being around the show was the only thing keeping all of their behaviors in line. When it ended, so did their reason/ability to keep up appearances..
