I was at a multi-company meeting about a new project that my company is getting involved with yesterday. Me and my whole crew was at their facility getting trained on new equipment weve never worked with before. Anyway they had some extremely black African guy with a really thick Kenyan accent or whatever presenting. My coworker whispered over to me (very loudly) “can you understand the nigger?” and someone from the other company was RIGHT behind my coworker. The look on his face was priceless. Looked like he was going to cry. l get the feeling Stephen isnt going to be working alongside me next week.

He's the only published author I see constantly obsess over "word count" whenever he talks about his books and his works in progress. Everyone else talks about character development, rhythm, rewrites, appealing to one's audience, linguistics, how to stay on task without burning out or getting blocked, and things along those lines. It's never babbling about word count and how many words they typed. That shit is for columnists who get paid by the word, not novelists.
