Yeah there's no fucking way he intended it to be a "joke". Like @McGowan6 said, no trace of attempted humor like sarcasm or irony.

He was playing up the Stealthy Geek persona in an attempt to impress the damsels. Yeah I'm into geeky things, but I hang out with actual tough guys like myself.
