The worst thing about the Wire is finding out the main character of the journalism storyline in season 5 (who is arguably the least flawed character in the entire show) is based off of the guy who created the show (David Simon). I still think about this one scene where the character gets reprimanded for cursing too much in the office. Such a drastic drop in quality in that last season, really ruined the whole thing for me. Never had any interest in rewatching it.

I've heard people say (probably here, since this is my only information source) that the writer's strike had alot to do with it.

Atleast they haven't tried to go back and make a movie and rape the shows corpse like that faggot David Chase.

The last season came out in 2008. Was there another big writer’s strike back then? I’m sure it has more to do with David Simon being a faggot.

The writer's strike had nothing to do with it. The Wire mostly hired crime fiction writers, who knew a lot about the police, but not about working in a newspaper or the mayor's office.

Simon is such a white (using the term loosely) guilter that of course he made the hero based on him a black guy.

Yeah Hollywood loves to make ghetto street savages seem deep and wise. When in reality they’re usually just retarded street savages.
This is one of the greatest aspects of The Sopranos. That all of the characters talk like retards and idiots. Sacred and the propane. Tony constantly repeating phrases he heard from other people leads to some of the most out of nowhere laughs. Like Paulie tells Tony "that's why you can never trust a snake...because they can fuck themselves". A few scenes later Tony and Gloria are in the zoo and Tony sees a snake, and like a total doofus repeats Paulie's line to Gloria thinking it will make him look smart. "You know that snake's can fuck themselves?".

Or like how D'Angelo in prison has this obviously heavy handed monologue about the Great Gatsby and what it means. The smart nigger (who is prison for two decades for heroin) is lecturing everyone about philosophy and life. Meanwhile Ralph from The Sopranos can't even remember the quotes from Gladiator and keeps referring to the main character a "Russel Crowe".
The writer's strike had nothing to do with it. The Wire mostly hired crime fiction writers, who knew a lot about the police, but not about working in a newspaper or the mayor's office.
The last season also had them make McNulty into some type of maniac where he spirals out of control and starts faking a serial killer because too many fans saw him as a 'White hero' figure. And David Simon didn't want fans rooting for a White savior. So they turned him into some alcoholic psychopath who changes his entire approach to policework and life because it weakened the character.

Being a prior MP.

One thing that bugged me was that in one season they did an interview on a suspect. There were like three cops in there. That won’t fly. It’s one or two.

WWAWD homicide: life on the streets?

I haven't seen every episode, but what I've seen has been pretty good. It clearly was a big influence on The Shield.

I like the episode (S2E1) where Robin Williams plays a tourist whose wife is gunned down by a group of "teens."

On a side note, I saw Daniel Baldwin at an Italian deli in Syracuse last year. Apparently he lives in the area. He's a big guy, but was looking pretty rough that day, like he was in the middle of a bender...
