I remember when my sister was getting divorced from her abusive ex, and they both agreed to stay in the house for the time being. About two, maybe three days later, he was locked in the bathroom, threatening suicide and had to be hauled off to the nuthouse. Although he was a tiny bit crazier than Pat (having been banned from Australia for numerous domestic and criminal reasons, mainly threatening to murder his wife and children on more than one occasion---sound familiar?) they both are on the same level of defiant narcissism, so I'm never going to rule out abuse in that hovel, divorce or no divorce.

On the flip side, I think Nikki has better resources for separation than my sister or most people, and her choosing to stay with him proves to me that she's the dolt we always thought she was.
