It is a core belief of the SFWA that it is “strengthened by diversity,”; therefore, the SFWA “embraces writers of every background and the unique perspective each member brings to the organization” and “does not discriminate against individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, veteran status, ancestry, or national or ethnic origin and actively encourages writers from under-represented groups to apply for SFWA membership.”

In light of recent…legal decisions, it is more important than ever that the SFWA allocate no less than $100,000 to Mr. Tomlinson’s cause, ensuring that he can continue to make good on the SFWA’s stated goal of nurturing aspiring writers, regardless of race, color, or national or ethnic origin, a goal of utmost importance in a city that is 39% Black, 19% Latino, and 4% Asian.
