Yeah, that's the impression I got from the whole thing. The original suit had Rick's hoofprints all over it, clearly all shit he collected and insisted they put in and they went along with it.

I don't think Resto or Minc Law were shrewd opportunists as much as they're just incompetent. Bottom-feeders who're the IT law equivalent of ambulance chasers, who rarely see the inside of a courtroom because 95% of their time is spent intimidating rubes into surrender with frightening legalese.
