The UK gov has blown billlions trying to make HS2 work. It's been a disaster.


You don't need high speed rail to make trains cheap. Spain's public transport is like 5-10 euros to cover half the country in distance and it's the same speed as any other. It's clean as fuck and well staffed and maintained. A return from Malaga to Marbella was the equivalent of $3 US last time I was there. If your country is known for tourism, well funded public transport makes sense.

People want to go to major European cities and they are clustered relatively close together, so capitalism and supply and demand make a Paris to Barcelona trip via rail exist at a relatively cheap price.

Something tells me the NYC to Columbus, Ohio route won't be as popular as the Paris to Barcelona corridor. Redditors lack critical thinking skills
