Non-stop ribbing and ballbreaking? Lightning fast zingers and oneliners left and right? This is simply what happens when you gather a bunch of these Artists in the same space. I tell you, no civilian would've lasted five minutes in that room.

This thread doesn't have anything to do with Norton's old stand-up in particular. The very premise of stand-up is hacky and embarrassing, so who cares.

Instead, what bugs me about this clip is how pompous they are and how pleased they seem about their internal 'comedian jargon'. Listen to the constant forced laughter, it's like they want to show off how special it is for them be gathered, and the listeners should feel lucky to get a glimpse into their cabal.

I guess what I want to say is that professional comedians are charlatans. This forum alone has way funnier people than O&A has ever had, and everyone here's only doing it in their spare time, because comedy is just a goof. It's a way to have fun and blow off some steam. It's not a fucking artform.

I agree but also disagree. Part of it was because theses guys were friends for decades. So not only did you have to get all of the inside references to old movies and tv shows to get their humor. But a lot of their jokes against each other were personal jokes about things that no one even in the audience would know about. And a lot of their attacks on each other were very specific to standup comedy like making jokes about being 'openers' and 'middles' and so on. The O&A lore is more complicated than Star Wars or Star Trek or Warhammer. Not that any of it is important in the grand scheme of things. But to truly 'get' the O&A show you had to be a hardcore listener.

Another thing is that during these roasts they would fake laugh to make the jokes against each other seem bigger. Like if someone ripped on Norton during the Norton roast everyone would just laugh no matter what unless the joke brutally bombed. It was not really mercy laughing but more just piling on top of the loser. Same with ripping on O&A during Jocktober. They would rip on O&A for things during Jocktober that had nothing to do with Jocktober at all. During one O&A roast of old O&A radio shows they just spent like fifteen minutes ripping on Anthony for showering with his father which had nothing to do with anything.

But you are right about their cabal. The Comedy Cellar crowd hacks were notorious for having their own little clique of mid level comedians that never amounted to anything. It was almost a badge of honor among them to have a failed tv show or tv pilot.

And this forum being funnier than O&A is a part of O&A. The Pests made a huge amount of O&A over the years. Assault on the media, homeless shopping spree, even Jocktober was always produced by the Pests. Pretty much all of the best song parodies were made by the Pests as well. Some of the Erock parodies and jingles still make me laugh. When the Pests used to raid other radio shows or message boards and pretend to be the family of Scot Peterson or Jon Benet it was always funny.

Standup is not art. And I barely consider it entertainment. But O&A really was amazing. I still feel sick that the show ended so horribly and the lives of everyone involved in the show are so pathetic.

I think my biggest issue with this community has been the faction that insists the show was never funny. Stop trying so hard. It was great at one time. And now everyone involved is awful. There’s no need to try and re-examine why you liked it, and try to hate it

things don't always need to hold-up forever, also the nature of the show (which partly made it unique at the time) was it was almost impossible to separate the art from the artist, this became especially hard with th ending & way the hosts went, and we're literally the worst (best) at spotting details & crutches.

I've got the O&A stream on now (as I often do) & still enjoy most of it

The longer the time they were on satellite, the shittier and lazier they got. Sirius had diamonds in the rough but the last 3-4 years were the Let's watch Youtube Show.
Part of that was because management hated them and wanted them out. The retards at Sirius could have literally gotten Rogan, Dipaolo, Burr, and everyone else signed under the O&A brand on their own channel. But all of the money went to Howard Stern. Not even to Stern's channel...but to him personally. The O&A show basically fought for pennies and scraps while people like Oprah or 50Cent or whoever got massive paydays for literally doing nothing. Even before the merger O&A were basically despised by all of the business workers.

Imagine doing all that work hosting your show, touring, getting up early five days a week, and being told by Sirius you cannot sign any podcasts to your network or expand in a meaningful way. And Stern gets another billion while your producers and staff are fired or never promoted. These guys were endlessly disrespected by management. Low pay. Small studio. Suspended over Homeless Charlie. Being hilariously told not to look Howard in the eyes in the hallways if they walked by him. Anthony and Norton did multiple hardcore rants against management. It was not just Opie. And these guys were abused by every single radio station that they worked for. The head of Citadel, Fareed, once conned both Opie and Anthony out of $100,000 each by scamming them into investing into a doomed to fail IPO.

Can you blame them for hating the heads of Sirius? The fact is that all corporate heads in entertainment are a bunch of loser kikes. Gandolfini famously hated everyone at HBO. The Sopranos was a great show. The greatest maybe. Was it great because of some jew executive? No. But they got paid better than everyone else. And Sirius was the same. The artists do all of the work. And some kike reaches into their pockets and takes all of the money and gives it to Oprah or Lena Dunham or whomever.

Yeah O&A and Jim did not care for the last three or four years but they did had some insanely good radio shows. Jocktober. Dennis Falcone. Lady Di Internship. And lots of other good bits. Anthony descending into self loathing racial madness and Opie playing Candy Crush were because they most likely were fed up with Sirius and neither of them were putting forth any effort. They simply did not care.

These guys were the best radio show of all time. Sirius and XM were always garbage companies to the point where they both failed.

What I liked about O&A I still like - mocking Joe Piscopo and Tony Danza and stuff like that.

I always hated the hack stand-ups that kept showing up and the 'special' stand-up comradery they had with Norton.

One guy that automatically makes me skip to another clip is actually Patrice. I can't stand pontificating comedians who rehearse a few cheap talking points and then act like they're some kind of life guru. But that's another topic I guess.

EDIT

You know one really irritating thing Patrice did? He always used to interrupt his own sentences in order to sound smart and profound, like his thoughts were so deep he had to start over to do them justice. "That's not... when you talk about black people without... the thing is, once you look at that from a different perspective... listen, I know plenty of people who...".

Patrice did once admit he was too stupid to explain things without telling a story. Which means he was the only comedian to acknowledge that he was dumb.

I love Patrice, but the older I got i started realizing how wrong he was about women and race relations ( something he gets celebrated for constantly in the comments).

It just bugs me how much he liked to say that women can't argue with logic and without emotions. Meanwhile, when legitimate points about black people were brought up he starts crying about slavery and Jim crow.
I just skip over those segments now.

Stern was the same way, back in the day. You could be doubled over in hysterics by the gang goofing on Jackie's crappy houses, but someone who didn't listen regularly wouldn't understand why it was so funny.

It really is annoying when comedians carry on about themselves like they courageously struggled in the trenches together and forged a bond no "civilian" could ever understand. Jimmy is a slimy, deeply closeted gay man who riffs about meaty clits, pre-cum and tranny prostitutes, not some comedy hero blazing a trail alongside his noble peers.

Patrice O'Neal's 3 talking points:

Romance: "see what you gots to be doing, is you got to be treating these bitches like shit." That's not profound advice, Patreeky. That's literally how every nigger has treated their woman since the dawn of time. And how did that work out for you? The second you died your "soldier" used your name to make every penny she could.

Racism: "all white people be racist." His goofy racial shtick made him a black(er) Ant. Poor little nigger thinks the system be unfair.

Conspiracy theory nigger: actually AMAZING stuff even if most of it wasn't true. Unfortunately Jim always chimed in and made it unlistenable. God damn I hate Norton so fucking much.

Speaking of Norton the only good thing about that video was that he got called out right in front of Colin: "that stupid voice you have in the tape is your real voice". I love that they played it off for laughs, but Jim really did steal a bunch of his personality from Colin. The gruffer voice, the sweetie child baby boy, the fake alcoholism, anything to be more like Daddy Quinn. Too bad he didn't steal being funny or entertaining from him.

It's almost as if his "love" advice only applies when you're dealing with bottom of the barrel, damaged retards. No offense, but his chick was never hot. Bitch looks like side show Bob.

And Norton was the most hateable when he would argue about how the constitution was outdated and was only relevant for the time.... Stick to talking about trannies and egg whites, worm.

Get him WK!! 🥾🪱

He really was just a dumb motherfucker on OnA. Remember when he said everyone on the internet should have to use their real name? And when he said he saw edibles and had to leave the room? Shut the fuck up, Jim. This was somebody so stupid that he thought you couldn't say the name of alcoholics anonymous like it was fight club.

I keep praying to God that I outlive him and that he gets buried and not cremated, so I can take a nice, hungover, dark, smelly dehydrated piss on his tombstone.
