James Gandolfini and Michael Imperioli are 5 years apart in age.

It was another way to shit on Italians and their “La famiglia” horse shit. There’s lots of little things they did to accomplish that. As CQ pointed out, everyone having white carpeting.
Interesting take -- never thought of it like that. This one was more egregious because Tony and Chris didn't share a drop of blood. Chris was his wife's cousin's kid lol

Should have just made him his cousin's kid-- when cousins are close and grow up together, you could see calling your cousin's kid a "nephew" but I guess they did the cousin thing to full effect with that animal Blundetto

Did you guys even watch the show? Tony was obsessed with Dickie Moltisanti. He called him a legend and bragged about how he hunted down the New England crew they were fighting. Tony kept Christopher around because deep down inside he hated his own father and liked having Christopher around because Christopher had a legendary father who was a father figure to Tony. Tony romanticized Dickie so he kept Christopher around like a nephew or son.

Later Christopher tells Tony that Dickie was nothing more than a junkie who squirted drugs up his arm. You can see the look on Tony's face right then and there of pure rage and disgust. He wants Christopher dead at that moment. Same storyline played out with Jackie Jr. and his father. Tony gives Jackie Jr. a pass for his small transgressions out of loyalty for his father. But once Jackie crosses the line Tony immediately says something like "your immunity is dead like your father".

The fact that Tony and Chris are not related is mentioned directly by the FBI on the show. The female agent asks Adriana and is still confused when given the answer.

Tony wasn’t really asking for a pass, though I know Reddit is for queers and farm animals but this pretty much hit the nail on the head

Lots of people misunderstood the whole subtext with his father. Like in "Chasing It", when everyone complained about the gambling problem that "came out of nowhere". Obviously he was doing it out of his increasing disdain for his father, who warned him to never gamble. It's also why he suddenly alienated Hesh, his father's old friend. Or when he considered killing Paulie. It wasn't about the Ginny Sack joke, it was about Paulie constantly reminding him about how his own father ordered him to murder a guy.

Jackie Jr was dead to Tony when he cheated on Meadow. Tony was aware enough to know he didn't want his daughter with a piece of shit wannabe gangster would would treat her as bad as Tony treated Carm.
Yeah, the lying and bullshit stories did JJ in. When he gave Meadow that necklace..."I will always be true"...LOL. "Meadow thinks I should go to the Fashion Institute"...she said no such thing.

This shows how they wrote the shit haphazardly; according to that Meadow is marrying a distant cousin and Vito was bragging about his first cousin (Adriana) calling him all the time like she wanted to Fawk (although Ant did that, so maybe it works?).

it doesn't really matter, but it's funny

James Gandolfini was only like 31, maybe 32 when this was shot.

Same genes as Frank Sobotka in the Wire. He was 35

Also D'Angelo is the same age as Stringer. The actors of course whatever the fuck their names were

Jackie Jr. tells Meadow he wants to switch to men's fashion and be like Hugo Boss. Meadow tells him she has a friend at FIT. This is something he was being honest about. But try telling your mafia friends you are into men's designer clothing.

He did embellish it, though, as he hadn't taken any real steps toward actually doing it. Imagine if he'd gotten that pass, went to the fashion institute, then became the official mafia tailor, running an illegal suit shop out of a storefront in Newark somewhere, where all the guys would go for their alterations. "Kid was always a dumb fuck though...but man, that kid can fit a fuckin' suit".

The whole point of Jackie Jr. is that no one has his interests in mind. Not even himself. Tony is a drug dealer, murderer, and whore monger. Who is aghast that Jackie Jr. would dare cheat on Meadow. Meanwhile Carmela is paranoid that Tony might pass her AIDS and cheats constantly. Tony also dropped out of school which is what Jackie wants to do. To join the mafia. All of the adult figures in Jackie's life a murderers and psychopaths.

Christopher gets Jackie involved in robberies and does not disclose to Tony that Jackie is into drugs. Ralph gives Jackie a gun and tells Jackie about the card game robbery and pushes him to drop out of school. Tony instead of helping Jackie with his life just decides to beat him up knowing that Jackie won't even hit him back because he is the boss (something he would abuse a lot on the show with others). And the first meeting Tony has with Jackie since his father died is to lie to his face how his Uncle Richie died. "Richie was rat" *taps furiously on a dinner plate*.

Even Meadow does not help Jackie out. She does his schoolwork for him in exchange for sex. Giving Jackie more time to deal drugs and play gangster and cheat on her. Kid was doomed. Pretty much every son of someone on the mafia on the show has some disastrous end with their father. Chris and Dickie. Eugene and drug addict son. AJ's suicide attempt. Vito and his fag son "It's a silo". Even Ralph's son nearly dies from a bow and arrow because Ralph is not paying attention to him. "Son of Gondor.....the bow is meant to find the ring!!".

Mostly true. Tony did try to look out for Jackie Jr in the beginning (in his lazy half-assed way), telling him his dad didn't want him in the mob then telling Christopher not to bring Jackie on jobs. Ralph let Jackie into his crew to spite Tony (this was the same time as their fight after Ralph murdered that whooar).

Once Jackie started dating Meadow, that's when Tony laid out the tough love. He beat up Jackie for catching the kid with a stripper. He was pissed off for Meadow. That's the exact moment Tony gave up on Jackie. Ironically, Tony was furious Jackie was in businesses Tony owned.

One point about Jackie Jr I haven't seen mentioned is that his father wanted him to have an aspirational life rather than see the reality of his son's retardation. Retard is a bit far, but he's obviously not going to be a doctor. I think that speaks to how Jackie Snr didn't really know his own son. These gangsters want their kids to escape the violent life the parents have but don't know anything about regular life or how it works. "Go to college and be a doctor" is a dummy's idea of telling a kid how to be a success.

Now if you apply that to Tony you can see he knows Meadow is obviously intelligent but AJ isn't. There's a lot of stuff there about Tony seeing the reality of AJ's future in a few short years with Jackie Jr.

And... peckahs.

This is an interesting point. Blue-collar parents think becoming a CFO or COO or a Medical Doctor is a matter of going to college and applying yourself-- they don't know how cutthroat the corporate world is and how naturally gifted you have to be to get into those truly top-tier positions vs. entry level or middle management.

Also like his father Tony said he didn't want that for his son but what he showed him was different. Later when aj was hanging with gervasi and Parisi's kids Tony encouraged it, knowing they were going the direction their dad's did and were up to some dirt
