Pat consistently takes a “both sides” approach to the situation in Gaza. He vaguely points to “growing authoritarianism” when discussing it or tries to insinuate Russia is the actual cause.
This differs from his take on Ukraine. He fully supports Ukraine and has advocated for US nuclear strikes on Russia. This difference in approach shows his hand. He doesn’t actually care about each.
The Ukraine situation has a clear bad guy. On the surface, Russia invaded a sovereign nation to gain territory. The media has identified “Ukraine good, Russia bad” without too much mainstream pushback. Gaza is a different story. While the media is pro-Israel, it’s harder to paint Israel as a put upon victim when they obviously have more firepower and killed so many more Gazans. This imbalance has lead to much more vocal pushback against the predominant media narrative on this topic with support for Israel flat lining for many different groups of the public. To be fair a lot of people are still pro-Israel but the support for Gaza is not insignificant.
This situation puts Pat in a difficult position. His main goal in life is accumulating Twitter points. If he supports Ukraine more than anybody, he’ll get the most good boy batpacks. If he supports either side of the Middle East conflict, he’s guaranteed one side to yell at him. It’s hard to “no child” your way out of being antisemitic or defending genocide. Therefore, he must be coy and somehow insinuate that Trump and “facism” is behind all of it. In reality, he doesn’t care. If he truly felt Ukraine was unjustly invaded, the same logic would compel him to support Palestine. Also he’s fat
