The faint stench of cordite lingered around the girl's corpse the way my old man would bring the sea home with him every day, all oysters and herring. She looked a young eighteen, maybe twenty.

Tom yelped.

With a trembling hand, he produced a bloodstained WOW sticker from beneath the cadaver. Examining it, I drew long from my smouldering pipe.
"It's time to take this case to the Feds upstate. Call your wife and tell her to put that casserole in the fridge."

Maybe not end but things will definitely just keep getting crazier. It's clear that technology has reached a point now where it's just making everyone more nuts and it's not something we can properly control anymore. Will be interesting to see all the ways things like AI/VR/AR will fuck society up even more in the coming years.
