No it’s fucking not better. Countries like Canada and the UK can’t make it work with like 1/5th our population and a fraction of our socioeconomic diversity. Even still, there’s long wait lists, doctor shortages, overburdened systems, etc. The list goes on and on and it all results in worse quality of care. NHS is literally bankrupting the UK as we speak. Plus, there’d still be private insurance anyway so people like me would still get better care than fat fucks like Pat regardless.

The argument he should be making is to remove health insurance from employee benefits. First, your coverage wouldn’t depend on your job and second, the employer wouldn’t be customizing the coverage to reduce cost. It’s not perfect but at least we can get a chopper to take us to the best hospital.

You can't get better care in Ontario. You have no private option. That's not a choice, so not every public jurisdiction will give you that, so add that to the misery of public systems, possibly traveling to seek better care options. The delivery is private the payment is public with the rules regulated provincially and funded by province using money from federal transfers and provincial funding too. It's a mess. Add to that a million local hospital foundations and boards consolidations to reduce footprints because you know putting everything under 1 roof saves money except healthcare you would like disbursed closer to the places it is used especially in snowy winter times. Imagine snow squalls when you have a heart attack and you're 30 miles from a staffed ER at 3 AM? Dead.

Being originally Canadian I have that discussion sometimes with people. This was from a story this past week in Nova Scotia

435 days for an MRI in 2024, which has become a basic common procedure. NS is about a million people, so it's small but bigger than 7 states.

If I have the money I can walk into all of the (quick search) 25 MRI places in Delaware (similar size) on Monday and get one. Or go to any of the surrounding states, which you can't do in Canada without jumping through hoops.
