There's nothing more sad than seeing full grown, middle aged adults actually pretending that social media - particularly their participation in it - is anything more than masturbation.

Social media was designed primarily for teenagers as a new, better version of the then very popular chat rooms. It enabled you to be more selective on who you interacted with.

Then, as per usual, self important, unemployed shut ins like Patrick came across it and made it their entire identity. Since they were ignored nobodies in their teenage years, social media enabled them to finally participate in what they feel was denied to them - interaction and attention.

They try and pretend that they are somehow doing "important work" in order to justify their addiction to what is by design a teenage girl's tool, which is easily refuted when you consider that their "important work" is easily dwarfed by the numbers most meme profiles do with shitposts.
