I feel like AntH and Jim probably are as close to "genuine" (and would tell you if they weren't) friends, but because of what simpletons they both are. I'm sure when both are cackling doing voices at each other that they're as happy as humanly possible, and I think that's all Norton really cares about. Being able to toe that "respectable New Norton" line but also be with an intellectual equal. God knows Burr and Louie, rightfully, didn't see him as a peer, and Norton himself clearly thought he was better than Vos and Bob Kelly.
