There you are .... towering over him as he cowers on the floor, struggling to find an escape that isn't there. You hold the bat high above your head; your grip firm and sure, your shoulders begin to dully ache with strain as your arms tingle with expectation.

He suddenly looks up at you. Behind his novelty glasses, his eyes, as wide as saucers, are red and bleary and filled with tears. He lets out single syllable shrieks now, his fear rendering him incapable of speech.

It's such a pitiful sight that what little empathy you have remaining inside of you twitches in response. You slowly lower your arms, instantly hating yourself for your moment of weakness. Your breath comes in gasps now as your adrenalin subsides. You two exchange eye contact, something that is unspeakable is communicated. His eyes blink in confusion, then gratitude. Your grip on the baseball bat loosens as you slowly turn and walk away.

You stop.

Your grip tightens anew.
