There is some advice here on how a judgement debtor can negotiate down their debt. Interestingly, "just completely ignore it" does not seem to be a strategy that they recommend, but this article seems to assume that the judgement debtor actually has income and property to protect (remember, Pat has no equity in his own house since he just renewed his mortgage).

My old manager used to run a bailiff debt collection agency thing.

He told me they get a bad rep but in reality they are reasonable and just want to work something out, if you engage with them earnestly they’ll work with you to find a compromise. It’s only the stubborn retards who ignore it completely where things escalate to actions that make them look bad.

I really remember how passionate he was when telling me these stories, “all he had to do was call us and we’d help him work it out, all he had to do was call…”

Sam Hyde has great videos on it, too. How he’s paying like 30 bucks a month for a 30k credit card debt because he just kept calling them for hours with sob stories.
