Is he really bragging that no one showed up to hear him play?
Not only is he gloating about that, he also made the point that he’s never asked about how many people he can bring to his gigs, which is annoying as a musician on several levels, but no one asks this “obese primate” about that because they know he doesn’t draw and couldn’t get even family to turn out for his mooing contests.

Joe is depressed and humiliated. His "music career", spanning over forty years, has resulted in absolutely nothing. He doesn't have as much as a tiny local following, a group of pals who attend most of his "gigs". He desperately wants everyone to believe he's a "professional musician" who earns a living doing what he loves, but in reality he's just desperate and afraid. He has no other skills, he has no other options, and the one thing he thinks he's good at is merely a constant reminder of how badly he's failed.

So he heads to social media, and gloats about "corporate gigs" and how he "gets paid" no matter what, in a feeble attempt to convince an audience of no one how he's "doing great" and not struggling to pay his utility bills. It's all a big, sad facade, the lie he needs to make it through another day of uncertainty, misery and woe.
