Because of There Will Be Blood, I think Paul Thomas Anderson could manage it. But who the fuck knows. That book is like reading somebody's nightmare. It would have to be adequately depraved whoever takes it on. Give it Panos Cosmatos, the guy who did Mandy. I dunno I'm shitfaced.

The guy they tabbed, John Hillcoat, is a solid pick. The Proposition is one of the better revisionist westerns (despite being set in Australia) and is suitably violent and depressing, plus he already directed an adaptation of another McCarthy novel, The Road.
