Even that joke doesn't work because those houses haven't decayed that much. You'd need to be talking about buildings that are like 100+ years old. And how many abandoned old houses have multiple stories with fucking staircases? The vast majority are gonna be regular, simple homes and cabins with just a ground floor. Nothing about what that faggot said makes any sense. The concept of finding a staircase in the middle of the woods is creepy precisely because it's unusual and inexplicable.
