There's so much pressure on low income earners to double up nowadays. I had an ex who basically needed a partner to get out of the rent cycle. After i left her she was living with someone else a week later. She was a shitty line cook and barely earned enough to cover her own rent, if she didn't have a relationship she'd be homeless.

I don't want to get all commie, but landlords are too fucking greedy and its screwing everybody. Rent on a shitty apartment shouldn't cost more than 30% of a shitty wage. If people werent paying more than half their income to assholes who got mortgages they couldn't afford on their own then there would be more money to actually put in the economy.

The alternative is having your own mortgage, replacing landlord with the bank.

Most tenants stop paying months before they are evicted or leave and it takes about a year's rent to repair the damage and get the unit suitable to rent again. Not a lot of profit unless you're a total section 8 slumlord.
