Are High School reunions a thing of the past?

I ask this because I graduated HS in 2004 so this past year marked 20 years and nothing was done and nobody cared. They tried doing a 10 year one and only like 5 people showed up. My dad is a boomer and his class still has reunions that usually get a good amount of people.

Has social media made High School class reunions useless? The whole point was seeing people you haven’t seen in years but now with Facebook you just go on there and see what they’re up to and don’t even have to talk to them.

Yeah I was talking to my dad recently and he mentioned how he had one coming up in the spring that was probably going to have about 50 people and it seems like its dying out for anyone under 60. He’s currently married to a woman he re-connected with at one of his HS reunions but for my age group it just seems stupid since we have social media. I think the majority of the people I went to high school with are still living in the same area or not far but seems to be no interest in an event.

I dont even live in the same state so traveling back just for that is not happening. I still wouldnt attend if it was held right up the street. I still talk to the few people I care to talk to from HS. Everyone else is dust in the wind.

My class was going to do one a few years back. The plan was to do a big picnic-type thing at a big park in town. Burgers, dogs, beer truck, horseshoes, softball game, that kind of shit. I thought it was a good idea. No dressing up, no retarded banquet hall, just a casual thing. Then it turned out that one girl, who was always a massive, stuck-up cunt back in the day, had some disease where she couldn't be exposed to sunlight. So the gay "committee" bagged the whole plan, and decided to rent a hall at some snooty resort eighty miles away, and I (and almost everyone else) just said fuck it.

Went to my 20th and it was fine. Some people got bald and fat. Some didn't change at all. It was weird. But it was good hanging out with people I was/am friends with.

They had our 30th but instead of renting out a venue then went to a high school football game and bar after. I wasn't gonna travel back there for that shit.

I doubt there'll be a 40th based on how lame 30 was.
