You don't "inflict" cruelty or cruelness to others. It should just be, "their motive is cruelty." And even that's wrong, because he's lying about us deliberately trying to harm him instead of just laughing at him, so it should be "their motive is cruelness." Cruelty is just sitting back and laughing at a fatso.
