Most of the shit in negro league history wasn't all that properly verified. People who know the sport know this.

What a joke. Baseball has done everything it can to keep black kids from playing. Youth baseball has turned into a country club sport.

There is actually a great history of black players going back to guys like Gibson, Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson, Aaron up to guys like Bo Jackson, Ricky Henderson, Barry Bonds, Griffey...some of the most exciting players ever. Nowadays they all want to play football or basketball and don't give 2 shits about baseball...racism aside, the sport is worse off for it.

Every shithole town/city has atleast one or two overgrown baseball fields that nobody touches. Soon enough the Central Americans and Brazilians will all turn them into soccer fields. Instead of trying to go back in time and rewrite history they should be putting that energy to appealing at young kids from rough neighborhoods to play. But we all know that optics and marketing drive things....not actually helping anybody.

Ty Cobb actually wanted the color ban broken before anybody, he wanted to play with the best players and would openly talk about how guys in the Negro leagues were better than his own teammates. He was also an avid fan of the league and supported it a lot when he became wealthy.

That’s something I didn’t notice until a couple years ago - you just about never see people playing baseball on the local fields. Barely any actual leagues but not even just some kids out there playing baseball which when I was growing up (the 90s) was unheard of.
