A Boston Market in my town used to be an Adult theater in the 80s.

Today I learned a Boston Market that I pass every time I go to the gym was a porno theater in the 80s and I don’t know why I think that’s so funny.

I just can’t believe some franchisee or Boston Market themselves looked at the area, saw the closed porn theater and said “that would be perfect for a Boston Market!”

It’s funny because it’s a large building but they only use about 1/4th of the it which I always thought was weird. They use what was the lobby area as the restaurant and remaining 3/4th of the building isn’t used since that’s where the screens / projection area was located.

I learned about it on Reddit for my area, people who were kids in the 80s knew it was the “adult” theater their parents told them not to go to. It also was where married men who were closeted homosexuals would meet up with their secret gay lovers. Many divorces in the late 80s / 90s in the area was wives finding out what their husbands were up to. Such rich history!

There was one closer to me than the one I’m taking about here but it went out of business a while ago. I can’t even remember the last time I even saw any advertisements for Boston Market.

If you’re near nyc you can do a mafia tour. One of gravanos clubs was turned into a day care. I think the Gemini lounge is now a restaurant and a hair salon. “12 murders were committed here, let me knock off 10%”

You gotta remember when VHS came out the player was expensive as shit, same with tapes. I know out of my family my aunt got a VHS player first in 80s and her place was where everyone went to watch videos since it was a big investment. But also for the reason as you said since a good amount of husbands (who had families) were going there to meet up with their secret gay lovers or meet someone new.

Yes but this was a theater right off 95 and in a strip mall so I guess it was easier to “blend in”

This was the 80s so you can imagine I’m sure some husbands were caught and the wife stayed and never told the kids what dad was up to. Divorce was still seen as taboo then.
