Yes he's fat with short arms and a fat gut. Bench press lifts are based on ... you know physics. Some of the factors for the effort for a lift are
- distance traveled - this is lessened by gut height and lever/arm length
- stength to weight ratio
Additionally he's likely just doing bench and not focusing on everything else a prospect would need. Such as speed, agility, and vertical. Football players don't just go to the gym and bench 3 times a week and nothing else. If you don't view it holistically you will make bad assumptions.
tl/dr - a fat 5'10 guy who gets winded after 5 seconds of work but can put up a decent bench can't be compared to someone 80 pounds lighter, taller and needs to be able to sprint <11s 100m and play an entire game.
