Okay, most of my posts in this thread have been very gay; time to actually start piecing together the facts of what actually happened in the past 72 hours.
The big questions asked by many in this thread are:
I think two things answer both of these questions.
- Who bailed Rick out? Who abruptly gave him $32.7k? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- He filed pro se first and then hired the O'Flaherty lawyers... What changed to make him do a 180° and agree to pay within a span of 24-48 hours?
Quoting @admin:
Indeed, during financial discovery (incl. the exam) of the debtor's finances/assets, all of Pat's, Lynne's, and the SFWA's finances would have been exposed. Amongst other things, Pat's Gemini account and SFWA's financial connections to him were the main things atalkers were looking forward to getting the exposé on. SFWA, who spent $7k quashing the motion to merely unveil their funding of the lolsuit, and has been suspected of embezzling and misusing much of their member's dues, plus giving cash payments to several pedophiles, was the party with the most to worry about in this ever-likely timeline. They also have lots of spare cash to tap into at a moment's notice to get them out of jams like this one.
But the real detail that gives it ALL away came from Dan, who witnessed Pat's massive spergout at his attorney just minutes before the hearing outside of the courtroom:

Dan's 5-minute livestream: His main comment:
Does this sound like the joyous relief of a broke man who's grateful about being given $32,000 out-of-the-blue to cover his crushing debt?
Most guys with that kind of debt and no way to pay it would even suck a cock to get bailed out like that. Someone (SFWA) gave Pat $32,000 and Pat shrieked and yelled and was clearly unhappy about them doing so. They saved his life (his house, his finances, his freedom) by bailing him out and Pat wasn't only not grateful, but openly didn't want to go through with it and is exclusively furious that they stepped in to cover the debt and pay Quasi for him.
All just speculation of course, but based on the hard facts we've seen today that remains my running theory: Two days before the hearing, SFWA made the call that they would go ahead and pay off the judgement to prevent any financial discovery. Patrick was FORCED to go along with this, letting them bail him out, and he only did so kicking and screaming. What forced Pat to go along? Maybe Niki & Lynne threatened divorce and cutting off the financial teat, maybe SFWA threatened to expose some blackmail they have on Pat; we'll likely never know.
But one thing is for certain: Patrick did NOT want to get bailed out and for this to happen; he wanted to continue to 'never pay', to go to jail and 'become a martyr.' This life-saving money was forced upon Richard (forced upon him like a nigger rapist), and he is outraged that it happened at all and that Quasi will, indeed, receive a penny, and a hell of a lot more than that.
God is a patposter. Praise Norm.
You can just use the ole' projection machine.

Not without dipping into your 401Ks or other retirement savings, if you’re lucky enough to have that.
I am fairly certain this guy has maxxed out a lot of credit cards or taken out some loans or borrowed money from family or something. Most people don’t just have $17,000 lying around for a rainy day in case they want to fight a subpoena. It’s not something that happens

He's loaned it, put it on a credit card. He's borrowed it from family. Assuring everybody, or assuring himself in the case of the credit card that this is just for a couple of months and he'll get it all back. So, if he really does end up taking that hit, or looking like he's going to take that hit.
